There is a very simple way we can change the pain of 'shoulds'.
'Should' and 'ought to' are self-imposed rules we make for ourselves and others.
Because we have made these rules it means we have a choice. We can always choose to change our rules.
The change we can make is to change 'should' to could. 'Should' limits us.
Could gives us choice and empowers us.
Change;
I should be more confident… to I could decide to be more confident.
I should exercise more……. to I could exercise more.
or
I shouldn't have anxiety…. to I could take steps to overcome anxiety.
Could gives us choice and with it our power.
This is a simple way to change things in the moment.
However if you want to stop the 'shoulds' before they arise it is really helpful to also look at not good enough, and expectations in Overcome Problems
