‘Being healthy’

Site Overview …… ‘Being healthy’ course

If you’re reading this it is very likely that you are interested in making decisions and taking actions to improve your ‘health’.

This is so different from the general view of health. Most people wait for something to go wrong and then want to have it fixed, without taking part in the healing.

They believe ‘in a pill for every ill’. Very often, taking the pill leads to another problem requiring yet another pill and so the cycle continues.

This is a passive and powerless way of looking at health.

As a result our so called ‘health service’ is really a ‘sick service’.

In the outstanding book ‘NLP and Health’, Ian McDermott and Joseph O’Connor examine the difference between ‘health’ and ‘being healthy’.

Health is often often thought of as a static state, as in either health or sickness.

Whereas ‘being healthy’ suggests movement….that you are doing something….that you are participating?

McDermott and O’Connor describe ‘being healthy’ as a process – something you are always creating’.

Words are incredibly powerful. We can always choose the meaning we give to things.

So the first step is to think of ‘being healthy’ rather than health. This is a really empowering view, because we are involved, participating and making decisions to continually influence and change how healthy we are.
