How to view introversion and extraversion

Site Overview

Are you an introvert or an extrovert?

When you take a test you are trying to fit yourself into an introvert / extrovert category.

The problem is the usual definitions of these types only suit those on the extreme ends of the spectrum.

Only a small percentage (maybe 10 to 15%) of the population fit very closely to the standard definition of introvert / extrovert.

So where does this leave most people.

Most people share characteristics of both with a tendency towards one or the other.

Most people behave differently in different situations with different people, so at times display characteristics of both types.

It is so much more useful to think of having a tendency towards either introversion or extraversion.

It is much more realistic.

It is much more flexible.

It avoids trying to pigeonhole yourself with a limiting label.

According to the usual definition only about 25 to 40% of the population are introverts. This means the majority of the population 60 to 75% are extraverts. As a result the extravert qualities are particularly highly valued.

If you show a tendency towards introversion it is really worth understanding the trait so that you can identify and value your introvert qualities, and realise that they are great strengths.
