Cognitive Therapy Course – – – Site Overview
With this type of distorted thinking we thinks that if something bad happens once it will keep happening again and again.
With overgeneralization we reach the wrong conclusion based on a single event.
We often use the words…
always……… never
So if we have an anxiety attack we think that we will always suffer anxiety attacks.
If we suffer some anxiety related depression we will never get back to feeling good.
If we have a bad relationship we think all of our future relationships will also be bad.
Or someone misses out an opportunity and thinks ‘I always have bad luck’.
When when we overgeneralise we cause ourselves extra stress, worry and anxiety.
