Change – Personalisation

Feeling not good enough can cause this type of thinking.

But it can also be difficult to recognise this type of thinking when we don't feel good enough off. So a great way to start is to ask ourselves the questions-

Am I causing myself extra pain by being-overly responsible?
Am I causing myself extra pain by blaming myself unnecessarily?

When we don't feel good enough we often suffer from anxiety. It can make us feel as if things are our fault, as in the example below.

You may be sitting in a room with someone in a bad mood and feel responsible or blame yourself in some way.

Overcoming anxiety and gaining confidence will always help reduce this type of thinking.

Feeling not good enough, expectations, 'shoulds' and a sensitive temperament can all cause 'personalisation' in the example below.

You may well be working on, or running a project with others and feel overly responsible for your and other people's work (and even blame yourself when things go wrong).

Feeling not good enough may cause you to feel the need to have to do much more than others to prove yourself. So you set overly high standards with lots of 'shoulds' attached and a fear of making mistakes.

You may be conscientious by nature, but with the stress you have put on yourself, this develops into to over-responsibility and self blame if things go wrong.
