Soul began, “The truth shall set you free.” They looked at each other in acknowledgement of this famous statement. Soul then continued, “For the first few days I really felt I was freeing myself from some of my expectations. But by the third day I was overwhelmed again by emotional pain and I began to despair again.
I did not expect what happened next. Without any warning that night there was a tremendous storm with thunder and lightning. Maybe I hadn’t noticed the usual tell-tale signs because I was so preoccupied. I went deep into my burrow. The oppressiveness of the storm seemed to mirror the onerous feelings that I felt. I huddled up, clinging on, resisting and battling with my emotions. It was a long an emotionally, painful night.
In the morning, when I ventured out, there was a usual calm after the storm but that was only on the outside, I still felt the same pain inside. I decided to swim downstream. I swum for most of the day and felt some relief at expending so much energy. Finally, fairly tired, I stopped for a rest.
I caught sight of a water vole in my peripheral vision, swimming towards me. Her first words were, “Wasn’t that storm exhilarating last night?” To which I replied, “No I can’t say I found it at all enjoyable.”
The water vole introduced herself as “Flow’ and responded, “I am sorry to hear that. How did the storm make you feel then?
I explained my feelings about Blissy and how they were highlighted by the storm.” Flow paused, ” I can shed some light on your predicament if you’d like.”
“I was absolutely delighted as I felt that I had regressed back to my emotional prison after learning about truth only a few days before.” I replied, ” Please do. That would be really helpful.”
Flow explained, “The storm was nature’s way of releasing energy. We can we always feel the calm after a storm. The weather is like our emotions. They they just come and go, always changing. But what happens is when we have painful emotions, we fight and resist them and of course what we resist persists. So we hold onto our painful emotions much longer than we need to. It is much better to go with the flow and let go of our emotions.
Have you ever in the past, laid in your burrow listening to a storm and felt cosy knowing that it would pass and everything would be fresh and peaceful in the morning.”
“Yes I have, lots of times.” I nodded in agreement,
“The storm was there, not to make you feel depressed, but to teach you a lesson to let go and release your feelings and emotions. If we are prepared to feel our feelings and let go of them we can overcome any emotional problem. The problem is that most of us trying to avoid our feelings and dissociate from them. This does not allow us to heal. That just causes us further problems in the future.
So remember Soul…don’t resist and fight your feelings…feel your feelings…keep feeling them until you release them… go with the flow… just as you did as you flowed downstream to this part of the river.
Milo, have you noticed we keep hearing about letting go our feelings and emotions. Tomorrow I’m going to tell you about an incredible, individual that I met, who inspired me to let go.”
The Milo reflected later during the evening that he had certainly been feeling his feelings. It would have been difficult not to feel them. He thought that’s something he and Soul had in common. Both felt their feelings rather than dissociating from them. Then again that was probably because they both really hoped to be with the loves of their lives!
